Bopanna loses to Clement

NEW DELHI: Third-seeded Arnaud Clement of France defeated Rohan Bopanna 6-2, 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals of the Surbiton Trophy challenger tennis tournament in England on Thursday.

The men’s event of the grass court tournament had to be played on the hardcourts at Roehampton owing to rain.

Bopanna had knocked out Simon Stadler of Germany 7-5, 7-6(5) in the first round of the main draw, played on outdoor hard courts.

The top-seeded Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi pulled out of the doubles without playing a match owing to injuries.
