ARIYALUR: District-level ten top scorers in SSLC in the backward class category qualify to receive educational assistance of Rs.56,000 each for pursuing higher secondary education or polytechnic education in any of the reputed private institutions of their choice in the State. Eligible candidates are those who had studied in Government schools and whose family income does not exceed Rs.One lakh per annum. According to a communication from the District Collector R. Sudalaikannan the Government would provide the assistance of Rs.28,000 for each of the two years of study after SSLC. In another communication, the Collector instructed eligible students belonging to backward class and most backward class communities to approach the District Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Officer before June 30 to gain admission in the Government-run BC hostels. The applicant’s annual family income must not exceed Rs.50,000. Applications are available with the District Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Officer and wardens of BC hostels. College students seeking admission to BC hostels under the same family income criteria can approach the official and apply before August 30.
