Rourkela: One person died and several others were affected by suspected anthrax at Jhirpani village in Sundargarh district of Orissa, official sources said. A medical team from the Kutra Community Health Centre (CHC) rushed to the village on Thursday and brought at least nine persons to the health centre. The condition of two of them was serious and the rest were kept under observation, Birendra Kumar Mohanty, in-charge of the CHC told the PTI. The affected persons were in the age group of 20-30 years and had celulitis with blister formation on their hands, he said. Albinus Tete, 30, who died on Wednesday, had also developed similar symptoms, Dr. Mohanty said. On enquiry, the affected people told the medical team that they had taken beef some 10 days ago. – PTI
