CUTTACK: The police on Thursday seized a half-burnt body of a married woman from a crematorium here. The Tangi police, following a complaint from the woman’s brother, rushed to the city and seized the body. The police also detained the husband of the victim Pradip Mallick and his younger brother. Though a complaint was filed with the Tangi police and investigation on, the police refused to divulge anything in detail. “We are yet to register a case and nothing can be said about it now,” said a police personnel. According to sources, Pradip (38) married Sujata, daughter of Sridhar Kar of Kesharpur area of the same locality, some five years ago. Pradip picked up a quarrel with his wife on the day of Savitri Puja on Tuesday. Sources said, Pradip, in an inebriated state, returned home on Wednesday night and beat his wife. She reportedly fainted. When her condition did not improve, Pradip and his younger brother rushed her to SCB hospital here on Thursday morning. She, however, died on way to Cuttack. Without taking the body to the hospital, the woman’s in-laws allegedly wanted it to be cremated at the Khan Nagar crematorium here susceptibly. Sujata’s younger brother, on knowing about her sister’s death, lodged a complaint with the Tangi police and charged Sujata’s in-laws with murder his sister.
