CPI (M) protests petrol price hike

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday organised protests in the Capital and the National Capital Region against the sharp increase in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas announced by the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre.

A large number of CPI (M) activists participated in the protest by blocking roads at the Scindia House crossing near Connaught Place in the afternoon. The protesters also burnt an effigy of the Prime Minister. Some protesters were later taken to the Parliament Street police station.

Protest demonstrations were also organised in suburban Ghaziabad and Noida.

The Communist Party of India (M-L) party also staged a demonstration on Parliament Street in protest against the increase in petrol, diesel and LPG prices.
