NEW DELHI: A day after a stray cow gored a man to death in Rohini here, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was spurred into action on Thursday, constituting five special teams to catch stray cattle on the roads. MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the civic body had rounded up over 4,000 stray cattle in the past two months and 750 of these had been tagged with a micro-chip. “Ear tags have been affixed on 75 calves that will be replaced with micro-chips once they have grown up. We are unhappy with the non-cooperation of the Delhi police. We have been allotted a seven-man team under the supervision of a head constable but it usually faces hindrance when it tries to venture into the area of other police stations,” he said. Mr. Gupta also expressed grief over Wednesday’s tragedy of a man being gored by a cow. “A large number of illegal dairies are being run in the Rohini zone and the Commissioner would also be directed to order their closure. Since our request for allocation of the Tamil Nadu police for catching stray cattle was not entertained, we will now seek intervention of the armed forces for it. I will speak to the Union Home Minister on the issue,” he added.
