Seven teams to probe murder
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Seven special police teams have been formed to search for the assailants of Vijayakumar (53), who was killed near Turnbulls Road in Kotturpuram on Wednesday night, said City Police Commissioner R. Sekar.
Mr. Sekar said a long-standing civil issue among family members, some of whom are related to former Chief Minister Janaki Ramachandran, had been the motive for the murder.
Police sources said three persons had been picked up for questioning.
The victim was travelling in a car from Abhiramapuram to his residence in Ramapuram Gardens along with another person, Senthil, around 8.45 p.m. when an Ambassador car running behind rammed into his car. When the Ambassador car bumped into his car the second time, Mr. Vijayakumar got down and confronted the driver.
Just then an unidentified person hit Mr. Vijayakumar with a wooden rod on his head from behind. As the victim fell, the assailants escaped in their car.
Senthil took Mr. Vijayakumar to a private hospital in Teynampet where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The victim’s wife Sudha is the daughter of Narayanan, brother of former Chief Minister Janaki Ramachandran. Mr. Narayanan has six daughters and a son. Two of his siblings live in Ramapuram Gardens, the residence of former Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and Janaki Ramachandran.
