Accused BJP MP Katara had already been granted bail NEW DELHI: A court here on Thursday granted bail to Kiran Dhar, a co-accused in the human trafficking case involving suspended BJP Member of Parliament Babubhai Katara. Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau granted bail to Dhar on grounds of parity with the MP, who had earlier been granted bail by the Delhi High Court. The court directed Dhar to furnish a bail bond and a surety of Rs.30,000 each while ordering her release. The court observed that the accused had been in judicial custody for more than a year and a charge-sheet had already been filed in the case. Further, the court took into account the fact that at least four accused in the case had been granted bail. Dhar, an alleged associate of Rajinder Kumar Gampa, who claimed to be the personal secretary of the MP, was arrested in April 2007. The accused MP had earlier tried to get bail from the trial court more than a half-a-dozen times but his plea was rejected primarily on the ground that the charges against him were serious, particularly because he was an MP. Finally he got relief from the High Court which agreed to his plea that he had been in judicial custody for more than a year and that the investigations were over. The Delhi police had filed the charge-sheet on July 16 last year. Babubhai was arrested at Delhi airport on April 18, 2007, while allegedly trying to take a woman and a young boy out of the country on the passports of his wife and son. Subsequently the police had arrested more than half-a-dozen persons, including Gampa and Dhar.
