THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A massive rally by the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association members was held on the premises of the Lok Adalat in the city on Thursday. The rally demanding a High Court Bench in the capital city was organised in connection with the ongoing indefinite strike launched by the members in front of the Vanchiyoor court complex. The Permanent Lok Adalat, located near the court complex, comes under the Kerala High Court and provides legal remedies for litigants hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. Around 500 members, including advocate clerks, took part in the demonstration which began at the Vanchiyoor court complex in the afternoon. “Negotiations are currently under way with the State government for a settlement of the issue at the earliest and we are hopeful about the outcome,” said Cherunniyoor Ananda Krishnan T.K., secretary of the association. Meanwhile, the indefinite agitation by the members completed 112 days on Thursday. Mr. Ananda Krishnan said that the members would be forced to boycott legal proceedings at the completion of 150 days. V.G. Govindan Nair, senior advocate, who inaugurated the protest on Thursday, said that the State legislature which had unanimously passed a resolution for the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital also had the responsibility to monitor its implementation.
