Sterlite Industries gets award

Tuticorin: Sterlite Industries (India) here, a subsidiary of London-based Vedanta Resources, has bagged the Golden Peacock Environment Award (non ferrous category)-2008 instituted by World Environment Foundation, London.
The company was selected for the prize by a jury headed by P.N. Bhagawati, former Chief Justice of India and member of UN Human Rights Commission.
The award was given for effective implementation of environment management system on a sustainable basis, by which energy and water consumptions were brought down and emission levels were maintained within the stipulated levels. The company representatives received the award at the Global Convention on Climate Change held at S M Convention Centre, Palampur (Himachal Pradesh), recently.
