“Teachers must assist children”

Staff Reporter

THENI: Teachers must assist children in developing their self-confidence and individuality to enable them to evaluate their talents themselves, said M.P. Vijaya Kumar, Director, Sarva Siksha Abhyan.

He was interacting with children and teachers in various government schools in the district to assess the impact of the implementation of Activity Based Learning (ABL) and Active Learning Method that was introduced last year. Introduction of activity based learning has created an atmosphere in the classroom that tempted children to learn their lessons enthusiastically. Level of understanding the subjects has been increased among students, he said after interacting with children at several schools. “Teachers should take all efforts to continue this system effectively.”

The Director was also happy to see many children in panchayat union schools at Kondalnaickenpatti, Aranmanaipudur, Chinnamanur, Renganathapuram and Uthamapalayam read English and Tamil language lessons fluently, solved mathematical problems swiftly and understood other subjects without any trouble, thanks to the effective implementation Activity-based teaching and learning method.

The new system has helped students to learn lessons easily. Now they read lessons, summarise them and even frame questions and answers, said SSA officials.
