All should contribute to nature conservation: Pratibha

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil on Thursday stressed the need for people’s movement, with the active involvement of local bodies, the civic society and non-governmental organisations, to keep the world safe from degradation.

She was speaking at the presentation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar on World Environment Day.“The carbon footprint of human activity can be reduced when each individual, each household, each industrial unit — all undertake their work and activities as energy efficiently as possible and reduce wastage.”

Referring to the slogan of “low carbon technology” that was adopted for this year’s World Environment Day, she emphasised the need for governments, academic institutions and corporate bodies across the world to step up research work and develop joint research programmes to achieve the objective.
