Run a mile from this Somberi Film review

Ali, Ruksha in ‘Somberi’

Film: Somberi

Cast: Ali, Ruksha

Direction: Jonnavittula

It is sad that a poet, writer who is acclaimed for his work lands in a fix trying to build a premise and goofs up the movie. Jonnavittula begins the film with a lazy gazal, showing Ali as a good for nothing man who is either whiling away his time with his friends or is in constant slumber. The director probably wanted to show how Ali who is considered a useless man in his village turns into a reformed person but in the process brings in sub plots, like a romantic angle to the narrative, scheming politicians, a mini theft drama and an unnecessary campaign to highlight a social issue.

Goodhearted but a lazy Ali is implicated in a theft and pushed behind the bars. He falls in love with Ruksha who doesn’t take to him kindly. After landing a job as a watchman, he is promoted as a multi-media designer and wins everyone’s heart. AVS, Tanikella Bharani and Paruchuri Gopalakrishna are in forgettable roles, Dharmavarapu does a routine act and Ruksha is always walking in and out.

One can give this film a miss.
