The university, in a release, said that the programme, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, would be held from June 9 to 28. Sixty persons had been chosen out of 150 applicants from colleges in Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, to take part in the programme. The programme was aimed at identifying talented, motivated young students and nurturing their skills so that they could take up a career in mathematics. The programme would enable students to learn and pursue mathematics passionately, besides providing an opportunity to learn without the aid of teachers.
