PUDUCHERRY: Chairman of Indian Institute of Community Development V.A. Vasudevaraju has said that both the “Union and State governments are equally responsible for the increase in prices of petrol and diesel because of their faulty taxation policy.” In a statement, he said that petrol and diesel should be considered as “life-line commodities” and treated like other products in covering them by the tax-net. The government should examine the role played by both the public and private sector companies in meeting the domestic public need and insist on the private oil companies to satisfy part of domestic public demands.
