BSES saves Rs.4 crore
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Power distribution company BSES claims to have saved over Rs.4 crore by becoming self-reliant in indigenous repair and servicing of transformers.
The BSES distribution network in Delhi comprises 316 power transformers and 9,194 distribution transformers, which require regular upkeep and maintenance. “To ensure quality and reliable power supply to our consumers, we have to maintain all our transformers in a healthy working state and also repair and refurbish the used transformers effectively,” said BSES sources.
“With such a mammoth distribution infrastructure, BSES’ total dependence on vendors for repair and service of its transformers was a matter of concern, besides being an expensive affair. Subsequently a decision was taken to adopt self-reliance in indigenous repair and servicing of transformers,” they said.
The move resulted in huge advantages in terms of cost reduction, savings, improved repair quality and minimum repair time.
According to the company, the concept has already helped it save over Rs.4 crore since it took shape in October 2006.
