Uttarakhand bus operators not to raise fare

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: There is good news for the large number of pilgrims coming for darshan to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath in the Uttarakhand hills. The Joint Rotation Transport System Committee, an association of bus operators, has decided not to raise bus fares despite the latest increase in fuel prices by the Centre.Committee president Gambhir Singh Bhandari on Friday said the transporters had decided to bear the losses on account of the fuel price hike themselves so that the pilgrims were not penalised. “This is Dev Bhoomi and we believe in Atithi Devo Bhavo and would like to make the yatra as safe and comfortable for everyone,” Mr Bhandari said.

“The gesture is also aimed at attracting a larger number of pilgrims so that the local economy thrives,” he added.

Meanwhile, BJP workers burnt effigies of the UPA Government at Vikas Nagar, Roorkee, Haldwani and Almora to protest against the fuel price hike.
