No rapprochement with Bhattal: Amarinder

Ludhiana: Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday ruled out rapprochement with his detractor and Pradesh Congress President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and said a revamp of PCC was on the cards.

Replying to a question on the issue, he said his stand was the same as he had been advocating so far.

Capt. Singh, who was here for court hearing in connection with mulit-crore Ludhiana City Centre scam, had in the past charged Ms. Bhattal with being hand in glove with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and seeking undue favours from him in personal cases.

The former Chief Minister, who was accompanied by 12 Congress MLAs during his brief interaction with the media, said revamping of PCC was on the cards. A committee had been set up by Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the purpose, he added.

He said the Congress should take some positive steps on issues pertaining to the masses in the State. “Whatever has been done so far has failed to cut any ice. The people in Punjab were dissatisfied with the Akali-BJP government and needed to be mobilized”.

Asked about the treatment meted out to senior State Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar, who is also a member of the Congress Working Committee, at the party rally in Moga on Thursday, he said senior leaders should be respected. Capt.Singh had stayed from the rally attended by Ms. Bhattal and Congress General Secretary Margaret Alva.

He asked the Punjab Government to withdraw VAT on petroleum products so that some relief could be provided to farmers in the wake of the Centre’s hike in prices of fuel. The farmers, he charged, were still passing through an economic crisis and deserved a sympathetic treatment. PTI
