NGO dismisses Greenpeace’s concern on turtle issue

Mumbai: Dismissing Greenpeace’s claim that construction of Dhamra Port in Orissa could affect breeding of Olive Ridley turtles, another NGO said on Friday they required sandy beaches for nesting while the site for the proposed port is muddy.

“Olive Ridley turtles nest on sandy beaches, as they need soft sand to dig holes for laying eggs, whereas the beach North of Dhamra river is silted and muddy beach, ,” S.K. Mohanty, Secretary of Orissa-based NGO Sradhanjali, said. - PTI
