Mizoram plans to implement activity-based learning from next academic year

TAMBARAM: A delegation from Mizoram that visited government schools in Chennai and suburbs over the past two days has said it is impressed with the Activity-Based Learning method in place in primary schools.

The system would be followed in Mizoram from the next academic year.

The delegation included School Education Minister R. Lalthangliana, Director of School Education Malsawm Thangi and Lalhma Chhuana, Additional State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

On Friday, the Minister, accompanied by the officials, visited the Panchayat Union Primary School in Mambakkam. The officials visited Rani Meyyammai Primary School in Adyar and St. Joseph’s Primary School in Mylapore, both government-aided institutions, on Thursday.

Speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Thangi said they had heard about the successful implementation of ABL in Tamil Nadu.

On their impressions about ABL , she said: “It is excellent. We interacted with students who are all able to understand in English. Their confidence level is amazing.”

“We are convinced about the importance of introducing ABL in all government primary schools in Mizoram,” she added.
