CITU plans strike on June 10

Sangareddy: The State council member of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Chukka Ramulu on Friday released posters for the strike on June 10 demanding implementation of minimum wages and Labour Act for thousands of contract labourers working in several industries throughout the State, especially the industrial clusters of Medak district.

Number increases

According to a press release, the number of contract labourers in the BHEL has reached to 7,000 which used to be less than 1,000 a decade a go. In all, more than 50,000 contract workers were employed by the industries in the district.

Mr. Chukka Ramulu pointed out that none of the industries is concerned about the norm that any worker who worked for 240 days must be regularised. He demanded compensation and treatment to all the contract workers in case of accident under the Workmen Compensation Act. The CITU called upon all the workers to participate in the strike.
