Scribe stabbed

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: An armed man grievously injured the local news reporter of Malayala Manorama at Kazhakuttom on Friday morning. N. Rajendran, who is in charge of the newspaper’s office in Kazhakuttom, has been admitted to Medical College Hospital with serious stab injuries.

The police identified the suspect as Chandran, an agent at the Kazhakuttom Regional Transport Department sub office. Circle Inspector, Kazhakuttom, A. Pramod Kumar said Rajendran had penned an article detailing the travails of the people visiting the RTO office.

In his report, Rajendran had blamed a set of corrupt RTO officials and their agents for the problems faced by those unwilling to pay bribe. The CI said Rajendran was attacked in retaliation for the report. The police have detained five RTO agents in connection with the incident. Investigators will also question certain RTO staff. The suspect vandalised the newspaper’s office. The police have registered a case of attempted murder, trespass and wrongful confinement against Chandran. Efforts are on to secure his custody.
