Agni enters semifinals

CHENNAI: U.V. Agni (AKG) regained her touch in time to down the experienced N. Arul Selvi (Indian Bank) 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 11-13, 11-6, 11-3 and enter the semifinals of the women’s singles event in the fifth Jiwan Mal Nahath Memorial State-ranking table tennis tournament here on Friday.

‘B’ division volleyball

The Chennai District Volleyball Association will conduct its ‘B’ division league championship for the Sathyabhama Rolling Trophy at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium from June 9 to 15.

The teams taking part are, Nellai Friends, Sathyabhama University, Commando Police, D. B. Jain College, New Volleyball Club, Vulture Club, Dr. Sivanthi Club, Loyola College, RPF, CRPF, SRM, and Spickers Club. The tournament is sponsored by Sathyabhama University.

13 records sunk

Thirteen records were sunk in all on the opening day of the three-day State sub-junior and junior Delphi TVS aquatics championship on Friday at the Velachery Pool here.

Girls outshone boys with 11 new marks coming from them.

Among the girls, V.K.R. Meenakshi (Turtles), U. Aditi Malavika (NLC), S. Vilassini (Turtles), C. Ayshwraya (SDAT Sakthi) accounted for two new records each. Competitions were held in four age Groups.

In the boys’ section, J.T. Yugesh Kumar (Turtles) was the lone individual record maker, the other coming in the relay.

JK Tyre races

The Madras Motor Sports Club will conduct the next round of races for the JK Tyre Summer Cup for newcomers at Irrungattukottai on June 8. Races will be held in the Formula Maruti category and there will be four in all. The first race is scheduled to start at 11.45 a.m. The events are part of JK Tyre and MMSC’s continuous process to discover and encourage new talent.
