Pay only Rs 304.70 for gas cylinder: CM

Gaurav Vivek Bhatnagar

NEW DELHI: While there was some confusion in the Capital on Friday over the amount that consumers have to pay for a cylinder of cooking gas as the notification for the Rs.40 rebate had not been issued, the Delhi Government clarified that people need to pay only Rs.304.70 per cylinder from Saturday.

For its part, the Government has assured the oil marketing companies that they would be paid the price differential with immediate effect. So from Saturday, 44 lakh consumers in the Capital who consume about 4.5 crore cylinders of LPG per annum, should only pay the new rate, no matter what is demanded of them.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said senior government officials had spoken to officials of the oil marketing companies and assured them that the Delhi Government would bear the burden of the price differential and so they should start supplying gas to consumers at the new rates with immediate effect.

“In case of any problem,” she said, “people can complain to the Government officials.”To cushion the impact of the hike in the price of gas, the Delhi Government had on Thursday decided to remove Value Added Tax on cooking gas. It also provided an additional subsidy on LPG so that the domestic households do not suffer from the rise in prices. As such, instead of Rs.50, the price of a LPG cylinder rose by only Rs.10 in Delhi.
