Officials told to complete work on the front elevation However, they say they need more time
Checking: Karnataka High Court Judge Deepak Verma inspecting the work on the new court complex in Gulbarga on Saturday. GULBARGA: Two senior judges of the Karnataka High Court, Deepak Verma, and N.K. Patil who is also the administrative judge of Gulbarga district, on Saturday inspected the work in progress on the new court complex. The complex, located on the outskirts of Gulbarga, will house the Circuit Bench, which is scheduled to start functioning from July 7. The judges were accompanied by senior officials, including the newly appointed Additional Registrar-General of the Circuit Bench, R.S. Patil, Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, Superintendent of Police Manish Kharbhikar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Ramanna, Assistant Executive Engineer Shrikant Chowka and senior advocates. The judges inspected the five court halls, five judges’ quarters, guesthouse and staff quarters under construction and said they should be handed over to the High Court before June 26. They told the PWD officials that the construction work should be completed at the earliest so that the Circuit Benches in Gulbarga and Dharwad could start functioning as scheduled. The judges also told the PWD officials to complete the work on the front elevation of the court complex before June 26. However, the PWD officials were doubtful about being able to finish the work since they required more time to complete the intricate designs. “However, we are making all-out efforts to complete the work and hand over the buildings to the High Court well in advance,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. The PWD officials said that the court halls and judges’ quarters were ready and only minor work needed to be completed. The guesthouse was also ready. Finishing touches were being given, and it would be ready by June 26. The work on the staff quarters building was also going on in full swing and every effort was being made to complete the work before the deadline, they added. Later, the judges held a closed-door discussion with senior officials of the State Government, including the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police and PWD officials. They reportedly gave several directions on completing work before the deadline. Earlier, Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Umakant Nigudgi and secretary Gopalkrishna Raghoji called on both judges and thanked them for the decision by the High Court to begin the functioning of the Circuit Bench in Gulbarga city from July 7.
