Chamarajanagar: The Chamarajanagar City Municipal Council (CMC) president, C.S. Suresh Nayak, on Friday presented a Budget of Rs. 2.19 crore for the CMC for the year 2008-09. During the presentation, there were protests from CMC members for publishing the English version of the Budget. The CMC proposes to raise a revenue of Rs. 10.34 crore from the civic body’s own resources. It comprises water tax of Rs. 29 lakh, property tax of Rs. 45.5 lakh, Rs. 5 lakh rent from the corporation’s buildings, licence fees, betterment fee, debris fee, among others. The Budget includes expected revenue of Rs. 17 lakh from the CMC’s shopping complex rent and Rs. 40 lakh from the grant of State Finance Commission. Budget allocation for the various sectors are: Rs. 22 lakh for purchase of street light and repair; Rs. 17 lakh for drinking water maintenance and repair; Rs. 1.65 crore for road repair; Rs. 80 lakh for drainage construction; Rs. 1.30 crore for salaries of CMC employees and Rs. 30 lakh for town cleaning.
