PUDUCHERRY: Assistance had been provided by the government to the five families whose huts were destroyed in a fire at fishermen colony in Vambakeerapayalam at the rate of Rs.7,000 each family. The local MLA and secretary of the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, A.Anbalagan, handed over a cash assistance of Rs.1,000, apart from 20 kg rice, utensils and clothes to each of the affected families on Saturday, a party release said.
