‘Congress will not hinder development works’

Correspondent

R.V. Deshpande

SIRSI: The Congress will support the Bharatiya Janata Party rule in the State for the next five years and will not hinder development works. However, if the BJP misuses the power, the Congress will not tolerate it, said the former Minister R.V. Deshpande has said.

Addressing presspersons at Dandeli on Friday, he said that at least 20 Congress candidates were defeated in the Assembly elections by a margin of 2,000 to 5,000 votes. The Congress could have formed the government with the support of the Janata Dal (Secular). But the BJP had the peoples’ mandate, he said.

Mr. Deshpande said that his defeat in Haliyal constituency had surprised him. He, however, said that he would support the Haliyal MLA in pro-people works. Mr. Deshpande said that he would take up constructive activities without expecting any position or power.
