Eight lorries seized

KARUR: Police have seized eight lorries and arrested as many drivers for transporting illegally quarries sand from quarries in Karur district.

Based on a tip off, the police intercepted lorries transporting sand from Cauvery and Amaravathy quarries near the Thirukkampuliyur Roundatana when they detected that the eight lorries were carrying illegally quarried sand. A couple of them were transporting sand based on earlier permits.

The police seized those eight lorries besides securing Ameer Ahmed, Munusamy, Suresh, Ganapathy Raja, Raghu, Natarajan, Solaimalai and Iyyappan, all drivers of the offending lorries.
