APCC chief also unhappy over Botcha’s challenge on withdrawal of support to UPA

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India State council has sharply reacted to the challenge of Housing Minister Botcha Satyanarayana asking the Left parties to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance if they differed with the Congress.

CPI State secretary K. Narayana wanted the Minister to desist from making provocative statements and the Chief Minister to stop his Cabinet colleagues from airing such “irresponsible” views. “The Minister should keep in mind that his wish will come true if the Congress continues to take unilateral decisions on crucial issues,” he said.

APCC president D. Srinivas too said the Minister and a Lok Sabha member of the party had “no business to talk about the alliances.” Refusing to name the Minister and the Lok Sabha member (V. Arun Kumar), who made these remarks, he said they were perhaps unaware of the party’s line.

Replying to queries at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Srinivas said the party high command would look into the issues pertaining to alliances and it was not proper for others to publicly comment about the issues. It was firm on retaining the alliances and to resolve specific issues raised by the allies.

Asked whether the Chief Minister had tacitly encouraged the two leaders, who were perceived to be close to him, he said all Ministers were close to Dr. Reddy and the latter would express his views if any.

“I hope that the Chief Minister will look into the matter,” he said.

On the rise in petroleum prices, he welcomed the government’s decision not to transfer the hike on LPG cylinders to consumers and hoped that the government would examine the demand for bringing down the burden imposed on account of hike in petrol and diesel prices to whatever extent possible.
