Two cases transferred to Crime Branch

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Two cases registered against the self-styled ‘godman’ Santhosh Madhavan have been transferred to the Crime Branch. One is the case registered for cheating non-resident Keralite Sarafin Edwin of 4 lakh dirhams and other is a case regarding misappropriation of funds and illegal land transactions made under the auspices of Santhitheeram Trust, run by Santhosh Madhavan.

The local police are already investigating cases relating to rape charges against Santhosh Madhavan and will file charge-sheets soon. Considering the voluminous nature of investigation regarding the case on Santhitheeram and cheating Ms. Edwin, the local police requested the shifting of these cases to Crime Branch.

A team of officers directly under the supervision of Inspector-General of Police, Crime Branch, K. Padmakumar will take up the investigation. According to the complaint lodged, the accused breached faith of many, some of who are residing outside the country, in handling the funds that came to the Trust. The local police had taken into custody many title deeds during the search conducted at the guest house run by Santhosh Madhavan.

Similarly, the case of cheating Ms. Edwin, who is working in Dubai, was complicated right from the beginning. The case was registered on the basis of an e-mail from the complainant. Later Ms. Edwin produced documents showing transactions made from her personal banking account in Dubai between mid-2002 and 2003.
