Ms. Chidambaram has great passion for arts, literature Recites a poem penned by her on the role of doctors HYDERABAD: “I don’t interfere with my husband’s work. The dividing line is drawn very clearly,” said Nalini Chidambaram, senior advocate in the Supreme Court and wife of Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. In a tête-À-tête with members of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) at its sixth annual session here on Saturday, Ms. Chidambaram complimented them for striving to empower women. She hailed the women entrepreneurs for breaking the traditional and socio-cultural barriers and coming forward to head companies. Responding to a query, she said she wouldn’t also take up cases that involved her husband’s sphere of work in the government. In some cases, clients themselves backed out on learning that she was the wife of the Finance Minister. Fielding a lot of questions, Ms. Chidambaram said she had a great passion for arts, culture and literature. She inherited skills of poetry from her poet-mother and professional excellence from her lawyer-father. She wrote a poem in Tamil on the ‘Role of doctors and their commitment for a healthy wellbeing of society’ for Apollo Group of Hospitals. She recited a few lines from the poem. When the members said none of them understood Tamil, Ms. Chidambaram swiftly translated its summary into English. To another query on whether the standard deduction in the income tax offered to women by the Union government was sufficient or should it be more, Ms. Chidambaram said it was a great gesture. Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy said that promoting entrepreneurship and professional excellence among women was an important aspect for improving society. Sarita Reddy, executive director of Gayatri Sugars, assumed charge as the chairperson of FICCI Ladies Organisation - FLO Hyderabad chapter relieving Vani Subhas of Hansa Travels. Kamini Saraf, founder of Akshat Events, a fashion events company, took over as chairperson of Yong FLO chapter from Anjum Babukhan of Glendale Academy. Ajita Yogesh became vice-chairperson, Jyotsna Angara, secretary and Monika Aggarwal, treasurer.
