HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has accused the Congress Party of cheating people in the issue pertaining to the recent hike in petroleum products. At a press conference here on Saturday, former MP Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy recalled that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had asked Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States to cut down taxes and minimise the impact of the hike on the common man. However, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had only reduced the hardship by absorbing the Rs. 50 hike per LPG gas cylinder. He said the government should have absorbed the entire hike of Rs. 90 in LPG cylinder prices hiked thrice over the past four years. “And by not reducing sales tax on petrol and diesel, we do not know if the Chief Minister had disobeyed his party chief’s orders or was it a game played by Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Reddy on the common man in the State,” the TDP leader alleged. He dared Dr. Reddy to release a white paper on the pricing of petroleum products, including details of the actual landing cost, the taxation thereupon, the exact quantum of additional revenue generated. Referring to the so-called review meeting of the manifesto committee on Friday and the certificate of performance issued by Veerappa Moily, AICC general secretary in charge of AP Affairs, he said it was only an eye-wash.
