Sangareddy: Minister for Major Industries and Sugar J. Geetha Reddy has assured farmers that 1,500 tonnes of additional fertilizers will be arriving from the neighbouring Rangareddy district and the government has already released Rs. 500 crore to the Markfed to acquire fertilizers from all public and private sector manufacturers.

Addressing a ‘Rythu sadassu’ at the cotton market yard in Siddipet on Saturday, she said that farmers in the region could also benefit from the reduced rate of BT cotton at Rs. 750.

She said that the seed companies had agreed to cut the price because of relentless negotiations by the Chief Minister.

Siddipet legislator T. Harish Rao urged the farmers to fully utilize the benefits of government schemes.

He demanded setting up of a fertilizer store house in Siddipet as Medak district had to depend on the Sanathnagar railway godown for the purpose.

He also wanted an increase in the quota of fertilizers for the district.

He requested the government to abolish life tax on tractors and a subsidy of 25 to 30 percent on each tractor purchased by the farmers.

He wanted distribution of sprinkler irrigation systems to all the applicants and offices for all mandal-level agricultural officers. Mr. Harish alleged that kin of the 26 farmers who had committed suicide in Siddipet division had not received any benefit so far.

Exhibition opened

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated an exhibition organised by the allied departments of agriculture and distributed drip irrigation systems to 100 farmers. She also handed over prizes to Laxma Reddy of Dumpalpalli, Venkat Reddy of Chndrapur and Narsagoud of Sirisinagandla for record milk production.
