Red Rooster Racing announces its clients

BANGALORE: Red Rooster Racing, which had made a quiet foray into the world of motor sports by sponsoring Vikram Mathias in the Indian National Rally Championship, has announced its backing to a number of racing riders and drivers for the forthcoming season.

The beneficiaries for this year are bicycle marathon rider Samim Rizvi who has run all the way from Bangalore to Mumbai and cycled back from there.

The company will sponsor his participation in the Paris-Brest-Paris and Montreal-Boston-Montreal cycle races. Both the events cover a distance of 1200km and the cyclists are expected to finish the event in 90 hours.

Red Rooster will also sponsor debutant in the Group N + class Amitrajit Ghosh, who won the 1400 class last year, and co-driver Ashwin Naik in the forthcoming Indian National Rally Championship, apart from Mathias and his navigator P.V. Srinivas Murthy.

In the two-wheeler section, Red Rooster has signed up new-comer Sameer Venugopalan, who will ride in the UCAL Rolon National Championship piloting an Apache RTR 160 in the Group D (four-stroke) intermediate class. Another exciting prospect is K. Rajni, who is participating in the UCAL Rolon Championship, and Rohit Giri, who will take part in the Malaysian Super Series Super Sport Category on a Yamaha R6.

Red Rooster Racing has also signed on Gaurav Dallal, who topped his programme in the Brands Hatch driving school in the UK, to drive in the JK Tyre Racing Championship.

The Sports promotion team will be investing Rs. two crore on these sportsmen this year and also has plans to pump in another Rs. 15 crore for infrastructure development in 2008, including building circuits and a modification facility for cars.

Ace tuner Leelakrishnan will be Red Rooster Racing’s Technical Director.

Scholarship winners leave

The trio of Virat Kohli, Pradeep Sangwan and Tanmay Srivastav, winners of the Border-Gavaskar scholarship, along with Dhaval Kulkarni, the inaugural Dilip Sardesai scholarship awardee, were sporting wide grins at the National Cricket Academy here on Saturday prior to departing for Brisbane later at night.

The quartet will attend a six-week training program at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.
