NEW DELHI: The Congress councillor from Majnu Ka Tila here has lost his seat with a Delhi court declaring his election void for filing his poll papers after the last date for nominations, allegedly in collusion with officials of the State Election Commission. Declaring Councillor Vikas’ BJP rival Satish, who was runner-up in the poll, as elected, ADJ Kamini Lau has ordered action against the returning officer and the assistant returning officer of Ward No. 70 for the lapses. “The allegations against them are serious and entail both departmental and penal consequences. It is desirable and expected that the State EC should take serious note of their conduct and take appropriate action so as to send a clear message that such persons have no place in the system,” the Judge said. The court said R.K. Sharma, returning officer, and Hira Lal Duggal, assistant returning officer, had favoured Vikas in winning the MCD election held in April last year defeating the BJP’s
Satish Kumar by 276 votes.
