Longest bridge in Kashmir valley ready

Srinagar: The longest bridge in the Kashmir valley was on Saturday dedicated here to the public by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Completed after nearly 20 years, the 284-metre long bridge at Bemina has been constructed at a cost of Rs.10 crore.

Conceived in the 1980s, the bridge construction was started in 1990 but left midday due to eruption of militancy.

Last year Azad visited the site and issued instructions to complete the bridge within 11 months.

The double-lane pre-stressed concrete bridge with 250 metre approach roads connects Srinagar with Budgam district headquarters. He also inaugurated the 15-metre long steel bailey bridge over bemina canal. –PTI
