‘No shortage of DAP fertiliser in Punjab’
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Saturday clarified that there was no shortage of DAP fertiliser in the State and it had made adequate arrangements for its supply to farmers during the paddy season.
“As per the commitments made by the Centre, Punjab is very comfortably placed in the supply of this critical input (Diamonium Phosphate fertiliser),” Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s media advisor, Harcharan Bains told newsmen here.“The Chief Minister had camped in New Delhi for three days last month to get an assurance on the subject from the Prime Minister and the concerned ministries,” added Mr. Bains.
He said the Centre had assured a supply of 77, 000 metric tonnes of DAP for the current season, dispelling the fears of any shortage both for paddy and cotton operations. “Of this, three rakes of 2500 MT each have already arrived while three others of the same quantity were on the way from Mundra,” he said.
The total DAP requirement for June is of 30,000 MTs, he said, adding the Centre has already directed the Ministry of Railways to ensure its timely supply. On Wednesday, Mr. Badal had told reporters here that he had requested the Centre to take urgent steps to ensure supply of DAP fertiliser in the State. -- PTI
