No rollback: Deora
New Delhi: The government on Saturday said it would not roll back the hike in petrol, diesel and LPG prices. “The decision is final and there will not be any change,” Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told the Hindi news channel NDTV India.
Many States have already slashed sales tax on petrol and diesel and the VAT on LPG to cushion the impact on consumers.
Had it not been for the hike, the three state-run oil firms would have lost over Rs. 2,25,000 crore in revenues this fiscal and would have run out of cash to import crude.
Although many States, including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Bihar have come forward to forgo part of their tax revenues from petroleum products, Mr. Deora appealed to other States to reduce ST on these fuels to give relief to consumers. — PTI
