This Day That Age
The All-India Mayors’ Conference in Hyderabad on June 7 passed a resolution urging the State Governments to amend the Municipal Act in such a manner as to give such powers to the Mayors as would enable them to exercise effective control over the executive and administrative powers of the Commissioners. As the cost of land was a major factor in subsidised and economic rent housing by the Corporations, State Governments, Central government, Industry and Housing Societies, the conference requested the State and Central Governments to consider the question of putting a ceiling on land values if necessary by undertaking legislation in that behalf.
