Ketamine seized at the Chennai airport on Sunday.

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized six kg of ketamine hydrochloride, worth Rs. 60 lakh in the international market, from a Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger at the Anna international airport on Saturday night.

Ahamad Ibrahim, 39, from Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district was arrested on charges of attempting to smuggle ketamine, which can be used as a recreational drug.

Commissioner of Customs (Airport) C. Rajan said that officers of the Air Intelligence Unit questioned the passenger and took his baggage for examination.

They found the drug in 650 gutkha and betel nut powder sachets. “On questioning, the passenger admitted that he had agreed to carry the baggage to Kuala Lumpur for monetary benefits,” Mr. Rajan said.
