New York: Senator Hillary Clinton, who suspended her campaign for Democratic presidential nomination, has pledged to fully support her former rival and party’s White House nominee Barack Obama, who said he was “thrilled and honoured” to have won her backing. Shortly after shelving the campaign and forcefully endorsed Mr. Obama, a message appeared on Ms. Clinton’s campaign website last night asking her supporters to back the African-American Illinois Senator. The Obama campaign welcomed Ms. Clinton’s remarks, but a section of her supporters booed when she sought full backing for Obama, which analysts later said showed there would be a long-healing process after highly divisive campaigns. Also, questions were raised as why she only suspended her campaign and not ended it. The role that Ms. Clinton would play in the Obama campaign is yet to be determined. Though some of her supporters are pressing for her being made Vice-President, both sides need to consider issues before any decision is taken, said analysts. Mr. Obama himself has said anything but only explained the process would take time. — PTI
