KOCHI: Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Raghunath Jha inaugurated the conclusion of the Rajat Jayanti celebrations of Hindustan Newsprint Ltd., Veloor, on Saturday. The Minister praised the initiatives on part of HNL for implementing various expansion programmes and diversification into the writing and printing segment, a press release issued here said. Minister for Public Works Mons Joseph and Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom, who were present on the occasion, promised all possible help from the government to HNL. P.C. Thomas, MP, and K. Ajith, MLA, were among those present on the occasion. The press release said HNL had positioned itself as the leading newsprint manufacturer in the country. The operations had started with an installed capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year for producing standard newsprint. HNL produces standard newsprint grades of 45 GSM and 48.8 GSM quality. It has a share of about 16 per cent in the domestic newsprint production. The expansion-cum-diversification project includes a 1,70,000-tonnes-a-year paper machine, 200-tonnes-a-day deinking plant and a power block consisting of a 150-tonne-a-hour boiler and a 25-MW turbo generator with all associated facilities.
