Corrections and clarifications

>>The heading of an item (“Briefly”, June 9, 2008, page 1) was “India to extradite Narendra Rastogi”, while the text said “India is to send a team to the U.S. to extradite Narendra Rastogi who has been accused by the CBI of defrauding the exchequer to the tune of Rs. 43 crore while exporting scrap to CIS countries.” The heading should have been “India to seek extradition of Narendra Rastogi”.

>>The seventh paragraph in a report “Koirala’s name as first President mooted” (“International” page, June 8, 2008) was “Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress has expressed its concern over media reports that say Mr. Koirala’s health is deteriorating. Issuing a press statement on Saturday, it clarified that the doctors treating him said that his wealth was satisfactory.” It should have been “health”.

>>The heading of a report (“International” page, June 7, 2008) was “Turkish scarf ban revoked”, while the text said “Turkey’s highest court on Thursday overturned a controversial law allowing women to wear the headscarf (hijab) at university, dealing a blow to the country’s Islamist-leaning government and its chances of survival.” The heading should have been “Turkish scarf ban reimposed” or “Turkish scarf ban restored”.

>>A promo in the Andhra Pradesh editions (June 7, 2008, page 1) was “Air-India’s new fleet”, while the honey story in the inside pages had the heading “Air-India to acquire new fleet”. Both were misleading as the airline has already received about a third of its new fleet of aircraft. The report was on how its training establishment in Hyderabad is planning to expand its operations by acquiring more simulators for its new fleet.
