Congress provoking Mala Mahanadu activists TDP to implement reforms not inimical to interests of the poor Amalapuram: A minor scuffle ensued between the activists of Mala Mahanadu and police when the former tried to obstruct TDP president N Chandrababu’s `Mee Kosam’ tour at the clock tower centre in Amalapuram on Monday. The police used force to quell the mob while Mr. Naidu described the incident as the brand of violent politics which the Congress party was known for. He alleged that the Mala Mahanadu activists were provoked by Congress leaders who wanted to create a false impression that classification of SCs was against their interest. Addressing a public meeting, Mr. Naidu said that the TDP had the credit of catapulting GMC Balayogi who belonged to SCs, on to the national scene from Amalapuram (SC) constituency by making him Speaker of the Lok Sabha, a feat which no other party could achieve. Similarly, the credit of conferring Bharat Ratna on Dr. BR Ambedkar went to the National Democratic Alliance. Therefore, the TDP should not be blamed for the plight of SCs as it had done whatever it could for their well-being. Mr. Naidu suggested to the Mala Mahanadu activists to question the “double standards” of Congress party as Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was in favour of categorization of SCs whereas many ruling party leaders differed with his view. InflationAs regards performance of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government, Mr. Naidu said the last few years were replete with instances of hikes in the prices of essential commodities but the Government expressed its inability to control inflation. The increase in prices of petrol and diesel wase bound to make people’s lives miserable as the fuel price hike would have a cascading effect on prices of every item in the market. The TDP leader said if the TDP came to power, it would implement economic reforms which would not affect the lives of the poor and middle classes. A committee would be constituted to examine the feasibility of supplying power for 12 hours in the day to farm the sector, increase the minimum support price for paddy at par with wheat and other such policies aimed at the well-being of all sections of society. Belt shops would be closed as cheap liquor was wreaking havoc with the poor people’s lives. Another aspect on the party’s agenda was guaranteeing minimum support price for coconuts if the Central Government rejects the proposal that benefits a huge number of farmers in Konaseema area of the district which is prone to frequent cyclones. Former minister Metla Satyanarayana Rao, TDP district president N Chinna Rajappa and others were present.
