TIRUCHI: All necessary arrangements have been made for the two-day campaign of the Red Ribbon Express, a train traversing across the country to promote awareness on HIV/AIDS, in Tiruchi district.

The train would arrive in Tiruchi on June 11 and it would be the 101st halt of the train that is covering about nearly 9,000 km across the country with a total of 180 stoppages. The train is part of a nation-wide campaign implemented by the National AIDS Control Organisation, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and the Indian Railways to spread the message across country on HIV/AIDS. The train would be stationed at the Tiruchi Railway Junction on June 11 and 12 and be open for visitors between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Collector T. Soundiah told reporters here on Monday.

The train with seven coaches is equipped with educational material on HIV/AIDS, interactive touch screens, counselling and doctors cabins for providing counselling and offer treatment advice to patients. Health, development and counselling desks would be established during the train’s halt here.

During the two days of the train’s halt here, the cultural teams coming along the train would traverse 15 to 40 kms by bicycles everyday to reach out to residents in 48 villages through cultural programmes.
