This Day That Age
Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, in the course of his address at a meeting in Madras on June 9, expressed the view that he did not see any harm would result if Tamil was given an equal status as the national language of Ceylon with Sinhalese. He referred to the condition of Tamilians in the island and also made a reference to the U.S. military aid to Pakistan and appealed to America to withdraw this assistance which had started a minor armaments race between India and Pakistan. Mr. Rajagopalachari observed that the extraordinary situation in the world, their own internal problems such as the economic issues, the language issue and the Ceylon situation were all connected though they appeared to be unconnected.
