State coordinates with Karnataka to treat disease in border districts KASARAGOD: The district medical administration will start local level medical camps at rural areas in the district from Wednesday. District medical officer in-charge M. Kunhiraman said five doctors from Kozhikode Medical College would take part in the camp to be held Badiadka panchayat here on Wednesday. Badiadka is among the worst-hit areas in the recent fever outbreak. The patients needed rest and hence, the decision of the Health Department decided to provide medical care at their villages, to help them avoid travelling, the DMO said. Officials meetThe government doctors’ association would hold camps at various panchayats in the coming days, he added. Karnataka and Kerala were joining hands in treating chikungunya outbreak in border panchayats, he said, adding that a meeting of health secretaries and top officials of both States was held at Bangalore recently. Another meeting involving doctors from both States would be held at Kasaragod on June 19, he added. According to the DMO, 2,500 patients who showed symptoms of chikungunya received treatment from government hospitals in the district in the last two months. Though the beginning of rainy season had increased incidences of influenza, the situation was under control, he said.
