HASSAN: Following the violence in Haveri where one person was killed and five were injured in police firing, the Government directed Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez to return to Hassan immediately. Mr. Anjum Parvez, who has been transferred as Director for Municipal Administration, handed over charge to zilla panchayat chief executive officer Shankarnarayana and left for Bangalore. On the way, he was asked to return to Hassan and continue as Deputy Commissioner till the farmers’ agitation died down. The Government felt that changing Deputy Commissioners now would affect the administration as it would take time for new appointees to settle down. — Staff Correspondent
