Two youths drown in Shamirpet lake

They went to the lake for an early morning swim

HYDERABAD: Pleasure trip of five youths to Shamirpet lake on city outskirts ended in tragedy when two of them got drowned while swimming on Tuesday.

Raghavender Reddy, Kamal Kumar, Jyothi Krishna, Sridhar and Mahesh -all in their early 20s- went to Shamirpet lake in the early hours. After going around the area, Reddy and Kumar entered the lake for swimming around 5.30 a.m. while others sat on the bank. “Reddy swam far into the lake.

It is not yet known what had happened but he suddenly he started drowning and shouted for help,” the Shamirpet Inspector Ramakanth Rao told reporters. Kumar, who was also swimming in the lake, rushed to rescue his friend but he too got drowned.

The other three friends rushed to the local police. With the help of expert swimmers, bodies of the two youths were fished out later. The five youngsters completed engineering course from a private college in Kurnool. They came to city in search of jobs.
